Getting Involved

Educators and teachers

Your day care centre or primary school can become a "Haus der kleinen Forscher".  The programme specifically comprises the following components:

  • Workshops: At the further education events, you expand your skills with respect to educating and the natural sciences to assist your work with the children.
  • Materials: You receive materials and information free of charge in the form of experiment cards and project ideas on various topics (e.g. water, air).
  • Promotion day: Day care centres and primary schools can take part in the nationwide "Day of the Little Scientists" and receive ideas and materials concerning the annual campaign topic.

Trainers

Trainers conduct the workshops. Approximately 15 educational specialists first complete a one-day introductory workshop and later, an at least half-day advanced workshop.

Trainers are ideally experienced educators interested in natural sciences or people with a natural sciences qualification and an affinity for early-childhood education, e.g.:

  • Expert advisors or further educators of day care supporters
  • Museum educators from museums of technology or the natural sciences
  • Natural scientists or educators on parental leave
  • Retired educators

Network Coordinators

Local networks make a series of programmes for day care centres and primary schools in order to make it possible for children enrolled there to have encounters with the natural sciences.  The "Haus der kleinen Forscher" provides the materials that are necessary for this.

Local networks can be initiated and coordinated by a wide variety of stakeholders, e.g. by day care supporters, communities, active private persons, museums or universities of natural sciences.

The following are part of the programmes of the local networks:

  • Further education for educators and teachers
  • Passing on work documents and ideas from the "Haus der kleinen Forscher" to the day care centres and primary schools
  • Taking part in an annual "Day of the Little Scientists".

Day Care Mentors

Mentors support a day care centre or primary school by enabling children to have their first encounters with natural sciences and technology. You can support this day care centre by conducting experiments or taking photos for the purpose of documentation for example. A visit to your workplace or a museum participation programme will surely also interest the children. Whatever makes the most sense will be individually coordinated with the respective day care centre or primary school.
