The IDoS Peers met virtually a second time this year to work on their common research paper and share uodates of their networks.

The second Peer Meeting of the year was held in June with now six Peer Organisations of the International Dialogue on STEM Education. The members introduced what’s new in their network and discussed the writing of their publication to come – a paper on "impact networks".

Office for Climate Education

The Office for Climate Education (OCE) announced their successful launch of a step by step guidebook for teachers on how to take action on climate change – with 4.000 copies having been sent out. Together with their release the Office is introducing a new way of monitoring the use of the guidebooks via QR-codes that link to a survey and other activities. This method provides direct feedback from teachers to the organisation.

Furthermore the OCE is due to sign a partnership agreement with the Ministry of Education of the State of Veracruz, Mexico to include Climate Change Education in the curricula and in the professional development journey of teachers.

Fondation La main à la pâte

At the newly joined IDoS Peer organisation Fondation La main à la pâte (LAMAP) an evaluation toolkit was developed for assessing scientific knowledge and skills of students. Teachers can thus measure the level of scientific skills of their students before and after a pedagogic activity. LAMAP is planning to implement this toolkit in all online-training offers and different resources for teachers.

In addition, the French Foundation has developed new pedagogical resources and tutorials on germs, vaccines, and chemistry. A new application called FizziQ helps school children to conduct scientific experiments with a smartphone or tablet, providing ways to create graphs, spreadsheets and to perform analyses based on all kinds of incoming data.

Siemens Stiftung

Meanwhile, the Siemens Stiftung held their fourth international conference on climate change education in Mexico, Chile & Colombia. The event was aimed to empower teachers to educate on climate change and to raise local resilience by increasing knowledge of the issue.

Focus topic: paper on "impact networks"

In the second part of the IDoS Peer Meeting the members discussed the writing of a new paper on "impact networks". This common scientific paper analyses the question "How can networks help encourage the development and professionalisation of innovative STEM Education for Sustainable Development?" The paper is meant to help other STEM initiatives around the globe in their quality development, with findings based directly on best-practice of existing networks in the field. The paper is planned to be finished in autumn this year.

Lastly, the Peers planned their first in-person meeting in October this year. For the first time since its new foundation, the IDoS Initiative will gather in Berlin for their next Peer Meeting which will focus on the topic of "STEM Education and Digitalisation". More information will be given shortly.
